What IS a Storyboard?

A storyboard is basically a guestbook. The difference is, Storyboards allow people to write a "communal" story, or epic, with everyone assuming the role of one of the characters. Storyboards are NOT there for inane comments that you would find in a guestbook. Instead, each post should continue the overlaying story being told. Imagine that you and several of your friends decide to write a book. Each of you selects a character, or creates one, and writes his or her little bit of the story from the point of that character. Sometimes one of you takes the role of the Antagonist of the story, and you write a bit about what he is thinking and doing to destroy or hinder your protaganists. Remember, you aren't playing a game, you are writing a book, with each one of you contributing to the story. Its a cooperative medium for expression, you are not trying to do "better" than anyone, or "win", you are writing a story that will be read by others, most of which aren't even taking part!

Each of the storyboards here at Forsaken Realms is unique. The "setting" for the theme is different for each, though several rules are the same for all of them. Before posting, you should read the "about this storyboard" page, that you will find when you visit a storyboard. This details the rules that are specific to that board. If there is a story already in progress, please read it in its INTIRETY before posting. You want to make sure that your post "Meshes" with the rest of the story. Posting about crossing a river, when the story is taking place in a desert is very bad. BAD. BAAAAAD. You may get hit with the rolled up newspaper of stupidity that Asmo wields with a heavy hand.

DO NOT play somebody else's character. DO NOT describe something happening to somebody elses character. Instead, describe EVENTS, and let everyone decide how their character handles the EVENT. for instance:
DONT say: "Everyone falls into the pit that opens up in the floor"
DO say: "suddenly a pit opens up under the group."
That way, each player has a chance to decide what his or her character does.

DO NOT overdramatize. NOTHING is more irritating than a player who cant get over how impressive or neato or pitiful or big or strong or weak his or her character is. Describe your character when you first post, or when asked, and then QUIT. Remember, people will read everything UP till then, so you only have to post it once. Also, nothing ever sucks so bad that you need to turn the story into a daytime soap opera. Life is not a pit of infinate blackness, your heart doesn't bleed until you are drained of blood, You do NOT need to be melodramatic. Drama is fine, just don't overdo it. If you do, you may be givin an "angst cookie" by either Asmo or Milamber. For help on "angst cookies" go back to the main storyboard page and hit "what IS an angst cookie".

PLEASE do not confuse Out Of Character with IN character.... don't ask "bob" how he is doing with his gallbladder surgery, don't use "OOC" in front of a post and talk about things in the real world. THERE IS NO OUT OF CHARACTER on these boards. you can chat in the chat rooms, or use ICQ, or IM, or whatever. Any out of character posts will be removed, and you may get a thwack with the rolled up newspaper of stupidity.

DO NOT post pictures of ANYTHING in the storyboards. 1 offense... rolled up newspaper of stupidity, and we delete that post. 2nd offense, banned from the boards, and you can take it up with any of the council members of F.R.

Sex is fine, but try to limit it to 1 or 2 posts, total. Anymore than that, and you should get a room. The best sexual posts are:
1. ...The next morning, after a rousing game of "hide the yardstick"....
2. ...Bob embraces JILL, and the sound of their lovemaking echoed throughout the night...

things like that. There is no real need to discribe each movement of your hand. There are chat rooms for that. this is a book, remember? and it AINT romance.
